Judiciary Committee opens formal investigations Wednesday.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Comer of Kentucky is set to launch investigations into immigration issues at the southern border on Wednesday.
The first hearing will examine current security at the southern border along with fentanyl smuggling. The committee will hear from a number of witnesses, including border town officials.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has blocked the committee’s request for the testimony of four Border Patrol chief agents.
“The Biden Administration’s deliberate actions are fueling human smuggling, stimulating drug cartel operations, enabling deadly drugs such as fentanyl to flow into American communities, and encouraging illegal immigrants to flout U.S. immigration laws,” Committee Chairman Comer said. He continued that they will endeavor to hold the president’s administration accountable “for this ongoing humanitarian, national security, and public health crisis that has turned every town into a border town.”
